Staff Reviews
How far would you go to protect your child? The father in this story is the prosecutor in a murder investigation of the stabbing death of a 14 year old student. Imagine his devastation when the evidence begins to point to his own son. The parents learn, too late, that Jacob was the target of constant bullying by the victim.
Landay's skill at characterization draws us into the lives of this tortured family: the overwhelmed and depressed mother, the father too long in denial, and the sullen non-communicative teenager that many parents have known. But it is the twisting plot and shocking ending that really make the novel memorable.
