A Date With Lynda

Online dating enables people to make matches for themselves. However, a person’s online profile may not be true, or the picture may not actually belong to that person. It helps to have a matchmaker to make sure your love match is real, such as meeting someone through family and friends. These blind dates don’t always work out, of course, but there seems to be a higher chance of a successful date when people who know you can match you with someone else they know. Library staff frequently plays cupid, bringing people together with books, movies, music and new ideas. During the next several weeks, we will introduce patrons to Lynda.com, an online learning resource available with your library card.

The upcoming blind dates are part of our three-year strategic plan to instruct patrons on use of essential digital literacy tools. Patrons can learn about Lynda’s courses for business, software, technology and creative skills to help achieve personal and professional goals. Bring your laptop or tablet if you have one. A limited number of Library laptops will be provided for those who do not have their own. You can meet Lynda during any of the following sessions:

  • Wednesday, Jan. 16, 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Jan. 22, 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, Jan. 26, 10 a.m.
  • Thursday, Jan. 31, 7 p.m.
  • Thursday, Feb. 7, 12 p.m.
  • Sunday, Feb. 17, 2 p.m.

Lynda offers basic classes on Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other software, as well as learning about your mobile device, time management and weekly training tips. She also has advanced courses and certification modules on:

  • Business management
  • Computer programming
  • Digital marketing
  • Graphic design
  • Information technology
  • Photography
  • Video production
  • Website design

The library is here for you when you decide the time is right to find a perfect match to further your professional and personal goals. And if that relationship doesn’t work out, there are plenty of other fish in the sea to explore with Lynda. Don’t be afraid to take the plunge. We look forward to celebrating the happy marriage of patrons and Lynda, learning and growing together for many years.
