Leavenworth Public Library Strategic Plan 2018-2020
Primary Role: Create Young Readers
Children from birth to 5 will have programs and services designed to ensure they will enter school ready to learn to write, read and listen.
In addition to our existing Storytime and Wiggle Workshop activities, the Library is offering more early literacy opportunities for this age group and their parents.
- Baby Time - Activities for babies age 6 to 18 months which introduce early literacy skills through play, rhymes, songs and movement. Mondays and Thursdays, 9:30 to 10 a.m. beginning Thursday, Jan. 4
- Teddy Bear Storytime - Reading activities for children age 6 to 18 months with their favorite stuffed toy. Every Wednesday 6:30 to 7 p.m. beginning Wednesday, Feb. 7.
- 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten - Parents participate by reading to their child, with the goal to finish 1,000 books before they enter Kindergarten.
Secondary Role: Family Literacy
Adults and teens will have the support to improve their literacy skills in order to meet personal goals and fulfill their responsibilities as parents, citizens and workers.
The following activities are currently being planned and will be added in 2018:
- Literacy tutors
- Digital literacy classes
- Emerging reader collection
