Jacque Slingsby, Assistant Director

I am very excited to be at the Leavenworth Public
Library as the newish Assistant Director! Librarian is
my second career after a bunch of years working with juvenile offenders. I’ve had a small farm in Leavenworth County for 27 years and appreciate the opportunity to work in my community.

My library experience includes being the Director at the Atchison Public Library and the Branch Manager at the South Independence Branch of Mid-Continent Public Library. Just like Goldilocks, I found the perfect thing here-a library that is not too large and not too small!

My favorite parts of the job are the community events and collection development. I love going out to meet people and sharing all the fantastic library resources. When I accepted this job, friends and family made sure to tease me about my book selection skills. They advised I would have to order books on more topics than gardening, cooking and cats, as these are three of my favorite things.

I look forward to developing more community connections and growing the collection!

Sara Krapp, Youth Services Manager

I’m thrilled to join the Leavenworth Public Library as the new Youth Services Manager! My journey in
libraries and education has ignited a passion for helping young people discover the joy of reading and learning. My love for libraries began early, but it truly took off in 4th grade when I took a career quiz and ‘librarian’ topped the list. After some research, I thought being a CIA librarian sounded pretty cool!

While I haven’t quite made it to the CIA yet, I’ve been fortunate to work at some amazing libraries. From Pittsburg, KS, to Savannah, GA, I’ve explored various roles—from 3D printing and computer help to the reference desk and, most importantly, youth services. Leading “Messy Mondays” taught me just how much fun—and wonderfully chaotic—children’s programs can be, and I loved every minute of it! This passion for working with kids even inspired me to teach English in South Korea for the past five years!

Now that I’m back in the library world, I feel a renewed sense of purpose. I can’t wait to continue bringing exciting and engaging programs to the library, where young people can explore
their curiosity and creativity. Thank you for welcoming me into this vibrant community—I’m looking forward to all the amazing things we can achieve together!

I look forward to developing more community connections and growing the collection!
